Jeff Dawn: Make-Up’s Man of Action

Jeff Dawn’s enthusiasm and optimism are contagious. He has a passion about life. Organization and details are a labor of love for him. It’s no wonder, with attributes like these, he is department heading action films the magnitude of True Lies, Cliffhanger, Terminator 2 and The Thirteenth Warrior. We talked with Jeff at length about his career, his relationship with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and what it takes to be a good make-up artist and department head. Behind the Scenes on All My Children

MA talks with Marianne Skiba about her grueling work on the soap opera All My Children. “We turn out an incredible amount of work at a remarkable rate of speed,” Marianne says. “I am offended when I hear colleges joke about or put down soap work. I’ve had many a film artist break under the pressure. On the other hand, it’s the best training. If you can survive here you can do anything.” Marianne shares with us the special challenges and wonderful opportunities that go along with working on a soap.

Man of a Thousand Faces: Lon Chaney

In the 1950s, Hollywood appeared to be making as many biographies on cinema celebrities as they were making westerns. Their subjects included Buster Keaton, Rudolph Valentino, singer Ruth Etting, Will Rogers and Eddie Cantor.
